All About Patchmaker . . . .

I love everything about quilts - the fabrics, the colors, the patterns.   Blue quilts are my favorites.  And New York Beauty is my favorite pattern, but I like all the traditional patterns.  I even research them to see how old they are and where they were first made. 

I live in Salmon River, Nova Scotia, Canada, close to Truro, and right in the middle of Nova Scotia.

Who inspires me?  I'd have to say Karen K. Stone for her New York Beauties, and Ruth B. McDowell for her landscapes.  Oh, and Ginny Beyer for her hand piecing! 

How long have I been quilting?  I started "helping" my mother when I was four, but seriously piecing . . . for about 20 years now - my how time flies! 

Why am I called Patchmaker?  Just popped into my head one day -  like the Matchmaker song only different . . . Patchmaker, Patchmaker, make me a patch . . . .  

Am I a Fibre Artist?  I like Artisan better than Artist; just seems more down to earth.  I'm a one woman cottage industry.  I buy fabric 2 meters at a time, haul it home, cut it up, and sew it together again.  I design using EQ7 software.  My studio is what normal people would call "the spare room", but I call it "The Factory"!

What kind of sewing machine do I use? My favorite sewing machine started her career in a garment factory in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and since I found her, I've hauled her all over the country with me.  She's big and old and heavy.  Her name is Betsy, by the way.  Besides Betsy, I have a 1970-something Kenmore, and also a Husqvarna Mega Quilter on an Inspira frame for machine quilting.
