About Patchmaker Quilts

Hello!  Welcome to Patchmaker.

I'm  Maggie, an Indie Maker from Nova Scotia's Annapolis Valley.  Let me tell you a wee bit about myself.  I've followed many paths in life, from classical pianist to tow truck driver, with stops at school teacher, kennel owner, and warehouse supervisor, and I must admit that the older I get, the more unconventional I become.

But the one thing that has always been constant is my love of quilts.  I started quilting at age 4, and haven't stopped yet.  The more complex the design, the better.  I stick to pieced quilts, because my hand applique is . . . . . well . . . .awful!

And, why so many New York Beauty quilts?  Well, remember "Simply Quilts"?  It was a quilting show with Alex Anderson and it aired on HGTV, early in the morning.  One morning, Karen K. Stone was the guest, and she was demonstrating how to make this block called a "New York Beauty".  And my life literally changed forever.

I hit Record on the VCR (remember those??), and rewatched that show so many times I think I wore out the tape.  I still remember some of the dialogue.  It was the most beautiful, magical, stunning quilt block I had ever seen.  And I've pieced literally hundreds, if not thousands of them.  And I've drafted three binders full of my own New York Beauty patterns.  And every so often I say I've had enough, but of course, I never have.  And I never will.

These days, quilting is my full time passion - with side trips into knitting, hand dyeing yarn, crochet, and embroidery.  As my blog posts always say, my mission statement would be "Make Stuff.  Be Happy".

You are welcome to contact me with any questions  or to request a special bespoke item.  I hope that you will visit often.  Patchmaker quilts may also be found on Ebay, by entering "Patchmaker Quilts" in the search bar.

This waterfront belongs to friends.  They let me visit anytime . . . how great is that!

Blue Rocks, Nova Scotia

Digby Harbour - famous for their scallops - and about an hour away.

(Only we have better scallops down here, but you have to know where to go, so talk to a local if you visit, and mention the words "Crow's Nest".  Shhhhhhh, don't tell anybody.)

"The Critter" - my best mate, and Head of Security for Patchmaker.

and, of course, a New York Beauty!
